If you go to any gym, you will see lots of guys crunching away in the hope of getting that elusive flat tummy six pack abs or the so called “stomach muscles”. Some of them may have been doing this for years and yet, that the six pack remained illusive. Why is this so?

Well, if you have a layer of belly fat covering your abs muscles, how can you then see your 6 pack in its full glory, that is assuming that you have it under your tummy fat in the first place.

For your six pack to show clearly, your body fat ratio percentage must ideally be in a single digit. So the first thing you should do is to measure your body fat and see how far away you are from your goal. So start to eat more healthily and avoid starchy foods and sugary drinks as these food stuff can spike up your insulin level and encourages fat storage in your body. If you must drink alcohol, then cut down on it as alcohol is full of empty calories.

Replace or alternate your boring long cardio exercises with High Intensive Interval Training or HIIT. This is because it is proven that HIIT is a better fat burner. 

Next, don’t just do crunches and sit ups to target your abs muscle. Your muscles like to grow proportionately. This is because nature wants to protect you from muscle imbalances and related injuries. So you must workout your entire body musculature with compound exercises and that in turn will further develop your six pack.

Furthermore, intensive compound exercises make your body produce more of your natural testosterone and human growth hormones (hgh) which are essential for muscle development and body fat loss.

Oh, and do you know that weight ressistant training, especially training with compound exercises is a great way to burn body fat? Studies have shown that it is even more effective in melting away your body fat than long boring cardio exercises on the treadmill. Surprised you, didn’t I?

So if you want to get a well defined six pack abs, then you need to have a good program for losing body fat and building muscles. Therefore is it any wonder why those poor chaps at the gym can’t get their abs to show although they may have been crunching for years?
